Praise Updates

THANK YOU for praying for us this past month. For those of you who read our last newsletter, we are happy to report that our Bible translation students are off to a strong start, Ivy “swaying” sensation has finally stopped, and our home is filled with teenagers digging into God’s Word on Tuesday nights.

Pictured: On the first week of classes some of our students and staff walked from dorm to dorm praying over the homes of our new Bible translation students. Please keep praying for continued strength for these courageous men and women. The first semester is often the hardest.

Continued Challenges

After students finish their 2-3 years of Bible translation training, most return to their home countries to finish their work. The challenges, however, do not stop. Due to political unrest, this translator only gets 2 hours of electricity a day.

Praise God for his provision of solar power to keep his team’s computers, lights, and printers working.

Audio Bibles

It’s been a while since we’ve reported on audio Bibles, largely because much of the networking and work is done by nationals now. But we keep hearing glimpses of how God’s at work in that arena:

  • These women attach a bible to their headpiece as they go about their farming duties.
  • A team from a different country showed us their camouflaged Bibles, needed to avoid enemy drone strikes.
  • In yet another country, a friend told us how a believer had loaned out her one precious audio Bible to a neighboring village. After a month, reports came back of 50 people who had decided they want to follow Jesus!

If we’re honest, there are many other times in life when fruit is unknown or non-existent, so stories like this are greatly encouraging! This is God’s work, not our own. Praise HIM for drawing people to Himself.

Just for Fun

Like many of you, our days are filled with little cultural surprises. Like when a neighborhood cat refuses to stay off our restaurant table. Who needs a fancy cat cafe when you can have both feline companionship and delicious Burmese noodles for $1.20 a bowl.

Other times, “cultural surprises” are less pleasant. In each case, pray we hang on to God’s grace and a sense of humor. Thank you for praying for us, giving, and encouraging us in so many ways as we serve here.

Scripture Reflection

“Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.”

— Philippians 1:27 NLT
